FIGMENT is a free participatory arts event that celebrates creativity by challenging artists and participants to find new ways to create, share, and dream.
Our team of Performing Volunteers will march in a parade, play and sing along in song, and join in guided, semi-improvisational silly-stump-speeches!
Performing Volunteers are invited to an optional costume / props arts and crafts day, taking place in Manhattan on the weekend of June 1-2 (Time TBD).
As well as an optional zoom rehearsal (Schedule TBD) where we will teach the mechanics of the silly-stump speeches.

The Slightly Silly Party for Positive Patriotism
is an immersive, avant-prov exhibition and performance in the form of a “legitimate” political party.
We take pride in our country,
free from the jingoism, exceptionalism, and nationalism with which patriotism is sometimes associated.
We have deep love for our country,
while recognizing both the heroes
and the horrors that have shaped it.
We reclaim the symbols
of freedom,
of liberty,
and of our republic
from the fanatics,
bigots, and schmucks
who would co-opt them
for their own cowardly ends.

Nerd Level Deep Dive Description:
The Slightly Silly Party for Positive Patriotism immerses participants in a world of silly confusion, comedic reflection, and artistic joy; attempting to dilute toxic certainty and meaningless, negative political messaging.
Performances are centered on practices of improvised dance, music, and theater; inspired by text, video art, paintings and sculptures. It’s a new form that doesn’t quite fit in any of those disciplines that inspire it: We call it Avant Prov.
The improvisational energy creates a visceral, empathetic connection between the artists and the audience, an ephemeral community. The confusing, silly chaos jars the audience (and artists) out of their everyday acceptance and disrupts the flow of mundane, oppressive, thought-terminating cliches and slogans drowning us around the time of the election.
An artistic premise in the form of a ‘legitimate’ political party, the SSP4PP celebrates a love of country without denying, re-writing, or ignoring horrors of the past. It celebrates our aspiration for universal prosperity and liberty, while recognizing that this sort of equity has yet to manifest.
